Posted on March 20, 2026 in Neshamah B'nai Mitzvah Stories

There is something extraordinary about a Bar Mitzvah. A young person steps forward, takes the Torah in their hands, and says  in front of everyone they love that they are ready. That they belong. That this Jewish tradition is theirs. Now imagine that happening twice. At the same moment. With two brothers standing side by side.

On March 7, 2026, twin brothers Daniel and Ben became B’nai Mitzvah at Temple House in Miami Beach, Florida in a ceremony officiated by Rabbi Amy Rader of The Neshamah Institute, South Florida’s dues-free, membership-free Jewish community.

What Is a B’nai Mitzvah? (And Why Twins Make It Even More Meaningful)

The term B’nai Mitzvah is the plural of Bar Mitzvah – the term used when two young people become Bar or Bat Mitzvah together in a shared ceremony. For siblings, for twins, for friends who have grown up side by side in their Jewish education, a B’nai Mitzvah is one of the most moving ceremonies in Jewish life.

For twin brothers, the symbolism runs especially deep. They entered the world together. They navigated childhood together. And on this Shabbat morning in Miami Beach, they stepped into Jewish adulthood, together.

That is not a coincidence. That is a gift.

Families throughout South Florida –  from Boca Raton and Delray Beach to Miami-Dade – are choosing joint B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies for exactly this reason: the shared milestone becomes part of the family story forever.

Temple House Miami Beach: A Non-Traditional Venue Transformed Into Sacred Space

Temple House in Miami Beach is one of South Florida’s most distinctive ceremony venues,  a space that feels intimate even when it’s full of people, and full of warmth even when the energy is electric. For a B’nai Mitzvah, setting matters deeply. It shapes how a family feels as they walk in. It shapes how a young person stands at the bimah.

For Daniel and Ben’s B’nai Mitzvah, Temple House was transformed. The entire venue was wrapped to evoke the feeling of a synagogue, creating a sacred, immersive atmosphere that met the full spiritual weight of the occasion. Walking in, guests were not simply entering an event space. They were entering something that felt intentionally, unmistakably Jewish. A room built for this moment.

This is a choice we see more and more families making: taking a beautiful non-traditional venue and elevating it through design and intention into a fully sacred space. The result is a B’nai Mitzvah that feels both deeply personal and deeply Jewish,  without being bound by the walls of any one institution.

For a synagogue without walls like The Neshamah Institute, it could not have been a more fitting setting.

Thank you again for a marvelous service. You guys are the best. We love you.  Jennifer you are just tremendous with your tutoring and inspiration and we couldn’t have been more happy with last night. And Rabbi Amy we go back a long ways since Bnai Torah we love you and I just wanted to thank you again from all of us. Debra and Scott

How The Neshamah Institute Prepares Families for B’nai Mitzvah – Without Membership or Barriers

The road to a B’nai Mitzvah is never just about learning a Torah portion. It is about identity. About confidence. About finding your voice  literally and spiritually,  and learning to use it.

At The Neshamah Institute, B’nai Mitzvah preparation is built around relationships, not curriculum. No membership required. No prior Hebrew school necessary. No minimum level of observance. We meet every family exactly where they are and we walk with them all the way to the bimah.

Preparing twins for a shared ceremony brings its own beautiful complexity. Each young man has his own Torah portion, his own d’var Torah, his own relationship to the text. The work is to help them grow individually while also preparing them to stand together, in harmony, as brothers and as Jews.

Daniel and Ben worked with Rabbi Amy Rader and the Neshamah team over many months  – every session building not just their Hebrew skills and Torah knowledge, but their confidence, their Jewish identity, and their sense of belonging to something larger than themselves.

That is the work we do. Not one-size-fits-all preparation. Not a conveyor belt. A real relationship with each child, with each family  built one session at a time.

What Made This B’nai Mitzvah Unforgettable

Every ceremony we lead has moments that stay with us. Moments where the room holds its breath. Where a young person’s voice fills a space in a way you weren’t sure it would — and then it does, and something shifts.

Daniel and Ben gave us those moments. Their months of preparation showed in every word they chanted, every thought they shared. Their families’ love filled the room. And their pride  in themselves, in each other  was unmistakable.

That is what we work toward every time. Not a performance. A moment of genuine growing up.

Why South Florida Families Choose The Neshamah Institute for B’nai Mitzvah

The Neshamah Institute exists because too many families felt that Jewish life  – especially the Bar or Bat Mitzvah milestone – required a level of membership, background, or affiliation they didn’t have. Rabbi Amy Rader founded Neshamah in 2010 to change that.

Families choose The Neshamah Institute because:

  • No synagogue membership is required — ever.
  • No prior Hebrew school or Jewish education is necessary.
  • No judgment about where your family is starting from.
  • Personalized preparation built around your child and your family’s values.
  • Ceremonies that feel authentically Jewish and deeply personal.
  • A community that welcomes interfaith families, unaffiliated families, and families returning to Jewish life.

We serve families across Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Palm Beach County, Broward County, and Miami-Dade.  Wherever you are in South Florida, we can work with your family.
